What Does a Senior Care-Pro and Companion Service Include?
In general, a Senior Care-Pro is there as a seniors' Companion while their family or regular caregivers are away. They also can provide company to the elder while they are in the hospital recovering from surgery or other incidents. This service is sometimes used by loved ones who need to go to work or tend to other business.
Some traditional services of help include:
Providing company, companionship and friendly conversations with charges. Playing games or engaging in mind-stimulating activities. Taking short outings to the yard or for short walks when possible. Offering
seniors medication reminders. Light exercise guidance within the patient’s limitations and comfort level.
Many Care-Pro's may also perform homemaker and errand duties as a part of their role.
Some of these tasks may include: Preparing light meals at breakfast or lunch, such as soups, sandwiches or snacks. Assisting with light housework and chores such as dusting, laundry, and light cleanup. Running errands such as short grocery trips, picking up medications, etc. Transportation for elderly to doctor’s appointments and other outings.
Limitations of Senior Care-Pro Services
One common misconception is that senior Care-Pro's or Companions provide the same services as traditional medical caregivers/certified home health aides. While their roles are very similar, senior Care-Pro's do not provide assistance with activities of daily living such as changing disposable garments, womb care and so on. Some may have more care experience than others and will assist with the above, others who are certified as a non-medical aide may have a big heart and think nothing of assisting. Nevertheless, this will vary depending on the needs that you or your loved one desire, as well as the service price.
What are the Benefits of Home Help?
The benefits of having a senior Care-Pro or Companion is keeping a friendly, yet watchful eye over your aging loved one who needs a bit of company and assistance are vast. A few of these perks include the following.
Companionship & Engagement—Science has shown that seniors that stay actively engaged with regular companionship seem to become ill less often, suffer less from depression and heal faster from injuries.
Peace of Mind All-Around—Rest easy whether your loved one is in the hospital, rehab or in your home. With a Care-Pro your mind will be free to focus on work, errands or simply getting some rest, knowing all the while your Care-Pro/Companion has everything under control.
Faster Recovery and Fewer Injuries—Without the need to concern themselves with things like meal preparation, driving, or the upkeep of the home, seniors can recover much faster from incidents and surgeries. They are also less likely to suffer from future injuries by allowing their bodies to rest with the respite provided by a senior companion who does homemaker duties. It's also a bonus, having a friendly person to talk to who provides emotional support that will further promote mental wellness and greater levels of personal happiness.
Paying for a Senior Sitting Service
Most patients and their families find that the majority of state, federal and private insurance coverage policies don’t cover the costs associated with non-medical care including senior sitters or companions for the elderly. However, there are a few. Nevertheless, it’s advisable to check with any and all options available to seniors such as Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, long term care policies, Veteran services, and local charitable organizations. Feel free to give them our information for service.

*I've found throughout working with independent elderly, who live alone,
the services they need and want most are social, nutritional and housekeeping.
This conclusion is based on having worked with seniors for several years listening
to their wishes. I've heard: "I don't like eating alone!"
"Hate not having someone to talk to other than myself (or my cat)".
Also preparing meals can become problematic for seniors with knee, hip, hand
or leg problems as well as sight issues. Living alone can bring on feelings of
loneliness, which can lead to depression, lack of interest in life, less social interaction,
resulting in a black hole, seniors need these basic services to thrive.*
Research has proven that human interaction results in keeping the mind sharp and reduces memory loss.
In 2017, DIVINE SUCCESS surveyed our senior travel customers living at home.
The seniors disclosed that the services most in demand, in addition to those above are
Medication & Appointment Reminders (20.0%), Meal Prep Assistance (27.0%), Housework (25.0%) and Travel (28% to %30).
I found Divine Success Senior Services when the owner Gigi was running a travel service for seniors in Rogers Park and Evanston called Divine Success. It grew and so did the request that she received from seniors in need of help at home, with me included. I had a spinal procedure and Gigi sat with me at the hospital for 3 hours before the surgery. I was so afraid and very grateful for her support. Even after my surgery and healing process at a facility, she spared no expense in coming to visit daily to ensure that the staff there knew I was not alone in this. I am so very blessed to have met this lady who is full of compassion and truly has a heart of gold.

My moms knees and ankles were bad and had gotten worse over time. Living at home was always the goal. So we moved her onto the 1st floor of the home.
The transition was more than we expected, even demolishing the dining room and half bath to make her private space. Through all of the dust and helping Mom with her transition, plus 2 or 3 weekly appointments out of the home, DIVINE SUCCESS was absolutely outstanding.
